People use PLD because it can tank both physical and magical hits through the magic of swapping gear, and I think PLD is better at both of those than both of the other two tanks, which is kinda silly when one of them was specifically supposed to be a magic tank.

Though honestly, I think the whole idea of having a tank be focused on tanking magic hits is flawed in concept to begin with. They especially shouldn't have come up with that idea when Aegis...existed.

With the situation being what it is, I think if they raise the ilevel, they should make ilevel versions of Ochain and Aegis, adjust them so they're balanced with whatever new ilevel shields they have as appropriate (they're probably not going to just leave them in the dust since people would just go hyperrage again), and make Epeolatry equal to or better than Aegis on the whole magic defense thing (some new swords that arn't so much worse than Epeolatry would be cool too for anybody who isn't those 5 people that has one of those things).

Dunno what they can do with NIN. I guess put like a ridiculous amount of evasion on some weapon(s) of theirs so that they're basically capped evasion all the time, or something. (Even if they did that they'd still be worse than PLDs at tanking, but they can do damage and stuff so that's fair, I guess?)

Run's magical mitigation is nearly completely baked into the base class though. Epeolatry is their answer for physical mitigation.

Also as long as it's single element RUNs magical mitigation is already about the same right now no gear. A little worse if you aren't changing resist rate at all with all your resistance boost, decently better if you are having a decent effect on resistance. And that's with merits still being broken.... since they came out

Epeolatry can provide more physical protection against higher level targets than Ochain. And by can I mean when reprisal is down and capped pdt not counting burtgang because comparing ergon to emp and mythic seems unfair and then I'd feel the need to track down RUNs superior parrying... and well if you can keep reprisal up you should be using priwen anyways

And best part is RUN doesn't have to swap gear to do it. So it doesn't lose tp. You wont get caught out of the right gear when mobs do certain moves and take more dmg. Or things like some of the Naakuls whose autoattacks can do either dmg or just stuff that happens to close to each other.

For ninja I'd say along with making them able to evade decently maybe some kind of legendary weapon that makes it so you can't lose more than 1 shadow per attack no matter what including AoEs that normally strip them. Or something really cool like Gusterion that has additional effect utsesmi

i barely play but i'd still love to see RUN rocking the tanking role better. might just be the image i had in my had.. a parry tank. if Parry could go up to like 50%?
I hear RUNs damage suck against hard mobs cos they're too busy casting stuff to auto-attack, so maybe a parry & counter trait might go a long way too?

well mythic run is quiet good, but yeah the dmg sucks due to runes setting up and foil/flash casting etc.

Outside of battuta parry doesn't generally go that high against hard stuff though foil certainly helps a lot in a similar fashion. Dmg is ok for a tank but sucky compared to anyone else.

If you only keep runes/wards/phalanx up as they drop and only cast flash/foil as absolutely necessary you can cut out some of the dps loss associated with those but you are still going to be gimped with no real native DD ja/jts most notably att buffs. I seem to remember someone parsing a RUN/sam awhile back ago to be running pretty close to drk... but that was only when they both had full haste buffs and capped acc and RUN still had capped pdif on resolution even with lack of berserk/last resort and the RUN wasn't spamming hate tools. Ie basically ideal conditions where the RUN wasn't even trying to tank

Whatever they do, it has to be bound to Innin/Yonin, making them undispellable and reworking the bonus they grant.
It's the only way through which they can enpower NIN's tanking skills without making NIN too strong (damagereduction-wise) as a DD.

Honestly I don't think they're particularly interested in fixing NIN as a tank, atm. They did something for RUN but clearly that's not enough. RUN has other issues, imho it's the whole "single element" thing that's broken as a concept. Imagine a monster that uses very dangerous magic spells/abilities which are of random element. Surely you cannot rely on RUN on fights like those.

They should also release Barlight and Bardark btw, makes the OCD in me emo that those 2 spells do not exist.

Also, it makes me very sad to see how many of you propose to "fix" a job through a legendary weapon.
A job shouldn't need item X to be able to perform its role. That item should make that job incredibly better or even special, it shouldn't be the conditio sine qua non.
That's just lame in my book.
You don't need a Yagrush to heal on WHM, altough Yagrush makes WHM incredibly better.
Why should you need a legendary weapon to be able to tank on NIN or RUN?

    Unity Concord details.

That doesn't sound that bad I guess. It's going to ride on the strength of the gear just like everything I suppose. I'm a lil intimidated by the amount of Unities available though. I wonder if they're purely aesthetic or if they influence the gear/quests you can obtain. Wonder what they set the cap to per chat as well. Inb4 they didn't think of that and each chat caps at 64, locking out part of the server that are in a filled Unity.

They were saying it's bigger than Linkshells, so I assume they've thought of the maximum player size.
I'm hoping that these larger chat channels allow for greater group content, and hope that players are willing to try and get content going in these Unities. If so, this'll alleviate a lot of the shout group problems.

After rereading it, a glaring flaw will be the rankings. First week goes by, everyone sees who the most active Unity is, everyone switches to it for access to better gear.

As far as alleviating shout problems, idk. We won't know for sure until the system if fully fleshed out, but it sounds like it's just simple objectives atm, kill x NM, turn in x items, etc. Maybe if/when they add complete x Delve, complete 128+ Incursion, defeat a battlefield on D+, etc, then it'd give further reason for people to participate in that content. Until that though, it sounds like you'll just be bitching at your unity for people to come help complete a Wanted quest or something. Wonder what all non-unity content awards accolades, and if it'll be viable to spam say 20 minute Delves rather than fetching random crafting items or camping Valkurm Emperor.

I doubt they didn't think about it this time.
    I'm a bit surprised though.
On one hand I didn't expect Unity Concord to be an union of "players", I expected it to be an union of "linkshells".
On the other hand I expected it to be just a communication thing, not game content.

Hope it's going to be fun to play and not frustrating (like: "I need that item that nobody wants, and I will never be able to get it because it only comes when that Unity ends up at top rank and nobody chooses that unity ever").
From the description it sounds like a group of players who don't know each other who get together in a similar DutyFinder fashion but much less organized and do RoE-things together.
Hope my hunch is wrong because that would be overwhelmingly disappointing.

It could happen that everyone centralizes in a single Unity if the Wanted stuff is any good. However, I bet JPs split up into different Unities just to avoid NA and EU players. I think it's stupid to have 9 options. Four options would have been more than sufficient and would have encouraged community collaboration. Unless this becomes a centerpiece of new content, I could see people avoiding it entirely so they don't have a chat channel filled with retards.

I'm going to assume there's no player cap on each unity because that's ridiculous. So unless they haven't told us something, the most popular Unity is going to be the one with the most spammable Objectives and the only reason somebody might join any other Unity is if the top Unity channel turns into global Barrens chat.

Maybe each Unity gives different gear?

The gear is going to have to be pretty spectacular to get me in there. Unless they add a chat filter for it pretty quick. <,<

Annoying thing is we won't even know for sure how good it is until people really dive into it, with it being augmentable.

Making a windower addon filter for Unity chat will be trivial, so that's not a real concern for pretty much anyone who posts here.

it sounds like fail unless it would have been cross server wide. doesnt solve anything but who knows maybe it really brungs those 20 EU player scattered around 9 unionstigether!!

It does not sound bad at all. I am looking forward to what kind of 'unity' it actually brings.
